Seat Belt Solenoid Behaviour

Beitragvon concordepilot19 » Di 08 Jan, 2019 14:31

Sorry for the English, I hope someone can help. My car is 2001 SL 320. When travelling over a bump in the road, the seat belt solenoids make a "click" sound. This can be simulated by lightly hitting the roof controller with fingers (seat belt latched in). With both seat belts latched, both make a "click". The seat belts, roof, windows and roll bar work well in every other way. I used a g-meter on the roof controller when hitting it, the click of the solenoid is triggered by only +0.1g in the z direction (vertical). Could this defect be a problem with the roof controller ?

Yes, i think so...

Maybe u can try another roof controler, u can change it without any StarDiag.

All controlers above modelyear 98 are the same with endnumbers 3926, then there is a reissue
of the controler with the endnumbers 5026, u could use too.

Only for testing ur problem should work a controler with 3126 too, but the roof wouldnt work.
Used in MY 96-97.

Good luck... ;)

Thank you Christian, I will try to find a replacement, even one to borrow. I keep the battery on charge with C-Tek, I don't think this allows under or over-voltage, but I don't know if the previous owner made a "jump start". I have read that "jump starting" can damage these controllers, but why ?

I don´t know, but it is...

I killed 2 controlers by myself...
The problem is not the jumpstarting, the problem is trying to start with very low voltage.
Only under this constellation i had these problems with killing the controlers.

Better charge battery and dont try to start, if there is not enough power, or u wait 10 minutes at jump starting to charge a little bit from the helping car.

Soft Top Controller Description.pdf

Thanks Christian,

I have attached a description of how some parts of the controller works (post '95).

If the piezo components of my controller are damaged I would like to identify replacements (after 20 years ....maybe not !).

The version is one before ur controler, but could be similar..
Look for a sparepart, its the easiest way... :prost:
